Ryusaku Shinkawa discovered his passion for bags while working at Katochu Shoten. After losing his father at a young age, he pursued this passion by founding Shinkawa Shoten in 1940. A decade later, the company evolved into Shinkawa Ryu Shoten Co., Ltd., the foundation of what is now ACE.
Pioneering Materials Transform the Bag Industry
In the 1960s, ACE revolutionized the bag industry by introducing Japan's first bags made from "Toray Nylon," known for their vibrant colors, lightweight design, and durability. This innovation was followed by the pioneering use of synthetic leather "Delacour," which transformed the market and greatly expanded the variety of bags available.
A Journey Inspired by Connection andCraftsmanship
In June 1977, our founder, Ryusaku Shinkawa, traveled to China and was profoundly moved by the warmth and kindness he experienced from its people. On his return visit in 1979, observing the simple bags people carried, he found his true calling: to introduce ACE's exceptional craftsmanship to China and beyond. Inspired by a shared passion for travel, he envisioned creating bags of outstanding quality and design that would not only enrich people's journeys but also foster global friendship and cultural exchange.

In 2004, we launched the "Proteca" collection, showcasing the exceptional quality, functionality, and meticulous craftsmanship inherent in Japanese design. Building on this legacy, the "ace." collection debuted in 2016, specifically crafted to maximize comfort for travelers in every setting. The introduction of our "GADGETABLE" backpack in 2018 further demonstrated ACE's commitment to thoughtful design and ergonomic comfort, gaining recognition through multiple prestigious design awards.
